SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-WALKING WITH A TIGER

 (from mountainwings.com)

It sounded like a rifle shot.

Each time Tiger Woods hit the ball from the tee the sound was distinct. Perhaps it was the metal driver that he used that gave the impact, that sharp metal “POW” that went through the crowd.

My son and I vainly searched the skies for his ball as it took off. We never saw a one. All that we could do was follow the crowd and watch the caddy as he finally stood over the ball several hundred yards down the fairway.

We really tried to see the ball as he hit, but neither of us could. Perhaps it was that we were standing on the sidelines.  Perhaps it was the angle of the sun. Perhaps it was a combination of several factors, but we could never see it.  It emphasized another key.

Often you can’t see the target nor the strokes of true greatness. Only the visionary can see it.  They think above and beyond the crowd.  They have goals that transcend the ordinary.  They can see what could be instead of just what is.  Vision and the willingness to try is often what separates the great from the mundane.

“But it’s always been this way!”
“That’s not possible!”
“I (or we) don’t have the ‘you name it.’”

That’s the typical response in the midst of tough and difficult circumstances because most simply cannot see what could be.  Got tough and difficult circumstances?  Keep your eye on the ball but aim far beyond the ordinary.

Don't worry if other people can't see your goal, as long as you have a good plan to get there.  And that's something you can hang your hat on.

"Incentive," "inspiration," "drive," "enthusiasm," "reason," "purpose. " All these words can be found when you look for a definition of motivation. When I Googled "motivation" I got over seven million hits and some great quotes:

2/5/10 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-HOW DO YOU DO IT?

That is a question I (and more often, Debbie) get all the time.  How do you work with your spouse?  The answer is simple.  I love her.  And if you're puzzled for a good definition of the "L" word, on this-our 16th anniversary-try  this one on for size.

Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes...>>Read more...

2/4/10 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-A CONSPIRACY OF KINDNESS

by Steve Goodier

Kevin is a boy who might be described as "slow." He didn't learn his ABCs as fast as other kids. He couldn't compete in schoolyard races.  But Kevin had a way with people. His bright smile and big heart won him plenty of  friends.

My friend Randy, the pastor at Kevin's church, decided they needed a basketball team for boys. Kevin signed on and soon basketball became a center of his life. He practiced hard. While the other boys worked at...>>Read more...

2/2/10 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-THE IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRITY

Many years ago, Al Capone virtually owned  Chicago. Capone wasn't famous for anything heroic. He was notorious for enmeshing the windy city in everything from bootlegged booze and prostitution to murder.

Capone had a lawyer nicknamed 'Easy Eddie.' He was Capone's lawyer for a good reason. Eddie was very good! In fact, Eddie's skill at legal maneuvering kept Big Al out of jail for a long time.

To show his appreciation, Capone paid him very well. Not only was the money...>>Read more...

2/1/10 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-A DIFFERENT VIEW

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by.. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the...>>Read more...
