SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEADER
We are living in some trying times. It is in these that we yearn for good leadership, and it seems that for the most part-it is in short supply. Whether it's our current government leaders, aspiring government leaders, under-fire CEOs of Lehman Brothers or Wachovia...a quality leader is, apparently, a rare bird indeed.
At this same time, our nephew is in the middle of his first season as starting quarterback on his 8th grade team. From time to time, as I think of things to tell him or am asked by my sister (his mother) for some advice to give him based on my experiences as an athlete, I always try to think of aspects of being a good leader that I can pass along.
Which leads me to these-that crossed my desk this morning: "The 7 Qualities of a Good Leader", by James Bronner. I'm sure you can think of more or add more information to one, but these are a good start for all who lead-to heed.
1. A good leader has to have the head to be able to evaluate the quality of ideas and suggestions presented to him.
2. A good leader has to have the heart to be able to be compassionate and fair with the people.
3. A good leader must have the spirit to be able to hear the voice of God. Some paths God will lead you down don't make head and heart sense at the time.
4. A good leader has the eye to be able to see things other people cannot.
5. A good leader has the tongue to be able to communicate the vision to the people and motivate them to follow.
6. A good leader must have the hand to be able to do the things that need to be done. Knowing the right way is not the same as doing it.
7. A good leader has the steadiness of foot to set an example for the people. A minor flaw can outshine a major mission in the eyes of small minds.
And that's something you can hang your hat on.

I am jealous of my neighbor. He always has the most amazing lawn. While I was mowing my grass over the weekend, I couldn’t help but stare again in amazement. His yard looks like a putting green on a golf course. It is more like carpet than grass. It’s perfectly manicured. I wouldn’t doubt it if he gets out in his yard in the middle of the night with tweezers to pluck the dead grass blades out. If there ever were a...read more...

Its the thing you leave undone
That gives you a bit of a heartache

The letter you did not write,
The flowers you did not send, dear,
Are your haunting ghosts at night. read more...
