SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-NO ADMITTANCE

Wishing to encourage her young son's progress on the piano, a mother took the small boy to a Paderewski concert.  After they were seated, the mother spotted a friend in the audience and walked down the aisle to greet her.

Seizing the opportunity to explore the wonders of the concert hall, the little boy rose and eventually explored his way through a door marked "NO ADMITTANCE."

When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the mother returned to her seat and discovered that her son was missing.

Suddenly, the curtains parted and the spotlights focused on the impressive Steinway on stage.

In horror, the mother saw her little boy sitting at the piano, innocently picking out "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."  At that moment, the great piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano and whispered in the boy's ear,

"Don't quit.  Keep playing."

Then leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in a bass part.  Soon his right hand reached around the other side of the child and he added a running obbligato.

Together, the old master and the young novice transferred a frightening situation into a wonderfully creative experience.  The audience was mesmerized.

I like to think that's the way it is when you experience grace.

What we can accomplish on our own is hardly noteworthy.  We try our best, but the results aren't exactly graceful flowing music.  With His helping hand, our life's work truly can be beautiful.  So the next time you set out to accomplish great feats, listen carefully and you can hear His voice whispering in your ear, "Don't quit.  Keep playing."

I love those 4 words:  don't quit – keep playing.  Imagine what can happen if we just heed them.

And that's something to hang your hat on.

7/9/09 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-THE TRICKLE
My Jeep battery was dead this morning.  I had just returned from a weeklong trip.  The Jeep is only six months old. The battery is big and new.  I hadn't left any lights on.  What happened with the Jeep happens to many of us.

I had three power adapters plugged into the cigarette lighter sockets. I had installed a triple cigarette lighter socket.  I don't smoke but I have a lot of gadgets that need plugging up.  I have three cell phones. What in the world...read more...
7/9/09 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER
by Erma Bombeck

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the "GOOD" living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car...read more...

 by Brian A. "Drew" Chalker~

Are you a Reason, a Season, or a Lifetime?

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.  When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.

REASON:

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.  They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you...read more...
SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-KEEP YOUR OWN GRASS GREEN!
 By Joel Burke http://www.joelcburke.com

I am jealous of my neighbor. He always has the most amazing lawn.  While I was mowing my grass over the weekend, I couldn’t help but stare again in amazement. His yard looks like a putting green on a golf course. It is more like carpet than grass. It’s perfectly manicured. I wouldn’t doubt it if he gets out in his yard in the middle of the night with tweezers to pluck the dead grass blades out. If there ever were a...read more...
6/26/09 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-The Sin of Omission
by Margaret E. Sangster

It isn't the thing you do, dear,
Its the thing you leave undone
That gives you a bit of a heartache
    At setting of the sun.
    The tender work forgotten,
The letter you did not write,
The flowers you did not send, dear,
Are your haunting ghosts at night.  read more...
