SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-THE SNEEZE

This is based on the accounts of a true story that occurred at 2001 commencement exercises at Washington Community High School in Washington, Illinois. It's a great tale that always gets circulated on the 'net at this time of year.

They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-two students filing into the already crowded auditorium. With their rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt. Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed away tears.

This class would NOT pray during the commencements----not by choice, but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it. The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidanc e and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.

The speeches were nice, but they were routine.....until the final speech received a standing ovation. A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened.

All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED!!!!  The student on stage.. simply looked at the audience and said, 'GOD BLESS YOU, each and every one of you!' And he walked off stage...

The audience exploded into applause. This graduating class had found a unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or without the court's approval.

Join me in hoping there won't be the need for any "allergy attacks" at graduation this year.

And that's something you can hang your hat on.

6/25/09 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-THE DRIVE BY FLIP OFF
by Joel Burke (http://www.joelcburke.com)

It had been another exhausted day at work. I pulled into the driveway at home and slowly dragged myself to the front door. As I got closer to the front door, I heard a loud rumble at the bottom of the  street. It was as if a one-car drag race had just begun. During this time of the early evening, there is plenty of activity on our street as people roll into home from work, children playing in the yard and dogs being walked...read more...

A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell.  He painted a sign advertising the pups and set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard.  As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on his overalls.  He looked  down into the eyes of a little boy.

"Mister," he said, "I want to buy one of your puppies."

"Well," said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, "these puppies come from...read more...
6/22/09 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-ARE YOU HAVING FUN YET?
by Steve Goodier

Plato said that work should be play. Some airline employees have taken his injunction seriously. After landing, one flight attendant announced, "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride." There's a flight attendant who knows how to turn her work into play.

She may have been the same one who, as the passengers disembarked from the aircraft, announced,...read more...
6/19/09 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-FATHER'S DAY MESSAGE
In the faint light of the attic, an old man, tall and stooped, bent his great frame and made his way to a stack of boxes that sat near one of the little half-windows. Brushing aside a wisp of cobwebs, he tilted the top box toward the light and began  to carefully lift out one old photograph album after another. Eyes once bright but now dim searched longingly for the source that had drawn him here.

It began with the fond recollection of the love of his life, long gone, and somewhere...read more...
