A little girl was sitting on her grandfather's lap as he read her a bedtime story.
From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again.
Finally she spoke up, "Grandpa, did God make you?"
"Yes, sweetheart," he answered, "God made me a long time ago."
"Oh," she paused, "Grandpa, did God make me too?"
"Yes, indeed, honey," he said, "God made you just a little while ago."
Feeling their respective faces again, she observed,
"God's getting better at it, isn't he?"
The almighty has entrusted we parents with the awesome responsibility of properly cultivating his creation-his gift to us. It should be the goal of all parents for our children to have it better and to become better than we are-with the latter being FAR MORE IMPORTANT than the former. If you are a parent and you aren't seeing this happening, this is not a child problem, this is not a school problem-it's a you problem. With the advent of another school year, I think it's important for all parents to ask themselves this question: "What can I do to enrich my child in the ways of life, to make certain that by next May he/she is better than they are today?" And you know what? By answering this question-by living its answer, I bet you'll find YOU'RE better off as well.
