5/9/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-MOTHER
|
This is a truly BEAUTIFUL piece. For those of us lucky to still be blessed with our Mom, this is beautiful. For those of us who aren't, this is even more beautiful. For those who are moms, you'll love this.
The young mother set her foot on the path of life. 'Is this the long way?' she asked. And the guide said: 'Yes, and the way is hard And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning.'
But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, and gathered flowers for them along the way, and bathed them in the clear streams; and the sun shone on them and the young Mother cried, 'Nothing will ever be lovelier than this.'
Then the night came, and the storm, and the path was dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered them with her mantle, and the children said, 'Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come.'
And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary. But at all times she said to the children,' A little patience and we are there.' So the children climbed, and when they reached the top hey said, ‘Mother, we would not have done it without you.'
And the mother, when she lay down at night looked up at the stars and said, 'This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave them courage. Today, I've given them strength.'
And the next day came strange clouds which darkened the earth, clouds of war and hate and evil, and the children groped and stumbled, and the mother said: 'Look up. Lift your eyes to the light. ‘And the children looked and saw above the clouds an everlasting glory, and it guided them beyond the darkness. And that night the Mother said, 'This is the best day of all, for I have shown my children God.'
And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the mother grew old and she was little and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. And when the way was rough, they lifted her, for she was as light as a feather; and at last they came to a hill, and beyond they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And mother said, 'I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk alone, and their children after them.'
And the children said, 'You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates.' And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said: 'We cannot see her but she is with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence.......'
Your Mother is always with you.... She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street; she's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks; she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well. Your Mother lives inside your laughter. And she’s crystallized in every tear drop. She's the place you came from, your first home; and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love and your first heartbreak, and nothing on earth can separate you.
Not time, not space... not even death!
Happy Mother's Day. That's something you can hang your hat on. |

5/8/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-SOMEBODY ISN'T A MOM Somebody said a mother is an unskilled laborer ... somebody never gave a squirmy infant a bath.
Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you've had a baby ... somebody doesn't know that once you're a mother, normal is history.
Somebody said a mother's job consists of wiping noses and changing diapers ... somebody doesn't know that a child is much more than the shell he lives in.

5/6/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-ONE FOR MOM This is for the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Oscar Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, 'It's alright honey, Mommy's here.' Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end soothing crying babies
who can't be comforted.
This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse. For all the mothers...>>Read more...

5/5/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-A DREAM THAT WILL CATCH YOUR HEART by Steve Goodier
That all-too-quotable Yogi Berra once said, "If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else." There is something to be said for knowing where you're going. But even if you know where you want to end up, do you REALLY WANT to go there? Is the dream you are following IMPORTANT to you?
Motivator Tony Robbins says, "People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals -- that is, goals that do not inspire...>>Read more...

5/2/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-PAINTED WITH A DIFFERENT BRUSH by Steve Goodier
One man who loved the color yellow had yellow carpet, yellow furniture, yellow drapes, yellow walls and even yellow appliances in his yellow kitchen. He slept in a yellow bed with yellow covers and wore yellow pajamas. He got sick. You guessed it ... yellow jaundice.
He called a doctor who came to his apartment building. The manager told him he'd have no trouble finding the right one. "You just go down the hall and come to a yellow...>>Read more...

5/1/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-THE RULES OF LIFE (submitted by Bessie Bent-thanks!)
Got something in the email box today from Miss Bessie who send me great stuff all the time. It's a list that's been floating around the 'net for a couple of years and is usually falsely attributed to Bill Gates-supposedly from a speech he gave at a California High School. I've also seen it credited to Kurt Vonnegut, the award winning author. This is not true either. Ok, that ends the preface of today's message solely...>>Read more...

4/30/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-SITTING ON YOUR TALENT If you are like me, there are some things you may feel you do pretty well, and others that you would not admit to having done even at gunpoint! Please don't expect anything I build with my hands to remain standing past sundown, or anything I attempt to repair to ever stay fixed after I leave the room. And if my cars relied solely on me to keep them going, I would walk most everywhere I go.
On the other hand, I do play golf adequately, still have a decent jump shot, and I...>>Read more...

4/29/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-JOY ALONG THE WAY by Steve Goodier
A senator once took Will Rogers to the White House to meet President Coolidge. He warned the humorist that Coolidge never smiled. Rogers replied, "I'll make him smile." Inside the Oval Office, the senator introduced the two men.
"Will Rogers," he said, "I'd like you to meet President Coolidge."
Deadpan, Rogers quipped, "I'm sorry, but I didn't catch the name."

4/28/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-CHOOSING HAPPINESS by Steve Goodier
Debbie and I have been in the radio business for a combined 50 years. We've been doing this show together-in various places in the Southeastern United States-for so long, neither of us can remember what it was like to be on the radio without the other. I bring this up to pay you a compliment. Sincerely, you are the most positive, warm, and welcoming people we've ever had the pleasure of sharing our time with and we love being with you every...>>Read more...

4/25/08 - SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON-AREN'T YOU ALL SICK OF THOSE HIGH PAID T (submitted by Rus Thomson--thanks)
Their hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work nine or ten months a year! It's time we put things in perspective and pay them
for what they do... baby-sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage.
That is right. I would give them $3.00 dollars an hour and only the hours they worked, not any of that silly planning time. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 AM to 4:00 PM with 45 min. off for...>>Read more...
